We are delighted to invite applications to this exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and rapidly evolving team in Anaesthetics at York.
The Anaesthetic Department is part of the Directorate for Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care. Surgical services are located principally at two Acute Hospitals, York and Scarborough and some Elective Surgery is also located in Bridlington Hospital.
Within the Structure we have a Directorate Manager and Clinical Director responsible for the integrated Directorate and we also have a Deputy Clinical Director based on each site. We also have a Lead Clinician for Intensive Care, along with Clinical Leads for Day Surgery, Acute Pain, Chronic Pain, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and CPX testing as well as a number of Anaesthetists who have links with the various specialties.
There are a wide range of surgical specialities including, major colorectal and lower gastrointestinal surgery, vascular surgery, trauma and orthopaedics and major maxillofacial surgery. There is also a busy Obstetric unit with over 3000 deliveries per annum.
At York Hospital there is a recently built Intensive Care Unit with 12 staffed level three beds with 17 physical bed spaces, and 17 Operating Theatres situated in the main theatre suite and on the Day Unit, 2 Maternity Theatres and 2 Ophthalmology Theatres. In addition there are two Post-Anaesthetic Care Units (PACUs). Surgical services are supported by the PACU (Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit), Anaesthetic and Emergency Theatre Teams.
York is internationally renowned for its beauty and heritage with excellent rail and road links which ensure easy access to the wonderful North Yorkshire countryside. Scarborough is a vibrant seaside resort on the East Coast of Yorkshire, attracting more than one million visitors during the summer months. The North Yorkshire Moors National Park on Scarborough’s doorstep provides a place to get away from the crowds and discover our wonderful heritage.
Candidates must have a Medical Degree and be on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia, or be within twelve months of obtaining their CCTs (or equivalent) at the time of interview. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous.
If you are shortlisted, you will be required to take part in an Assessment Centre.
Assessment Centre and Interview are scheduled to take place for a full day on the 15th March 2019. The Assessment Centre will be based at York Hospital and usually lasts no more than 2 hours. Full details will be provided to you if you are shortlisted to attend.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
