York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to invite candidates to apply to work with us as a Locum Consultant Urologist at York Hospital on a 12 month contract. You will be joining a Trust which is proud to be supporting an ambitious programme of service modernisation and has a reputation for providing high quality services.

The successful post-holder will join the department at York on a 12 PA basis. The on call commitment is shared with colleagues at Harrogate Hospital and will be on a 1 in 8.5 frequency. Experience in endo-urology and stone disease would be advantageous, but we are keen to support development of other specialist interests such as paediatric urology, female continence surgery, laparoscopic urology, andrology or diagnostic urology. There is also potential for the post to be made into a substantive consultant post in the future.

The job plan will comprise main theatre operating, day case lists and outpatient clinics at the York site as well as new patient clinics at Malton (see below). The consultant urologists are supported by two specialist registrars, one specialty doctor and a team of urology nurse practitioners and cancer nurse specialists.

The Trust opened a Urology Diagnostic Centre in Malton in February 2017 providing ‘one stop’ diagnostics to new patients with same day flexible cystoscopy, TRUS biopsy, ultrasound, x-ray and urodynamics. All consultants, specialty doctors, specialist registrars and nurse practitioners work at Malton on a regular basis.

As a Trust we provide acute hospital services for approximately 600,000 people living in and around York, North and North East Yorkshire. The Trust has an annual turnover of over £400 million. We manage 1,127 beds (including day case beds) and have a workforce of over 8,000 staff working across our hospitals and in the community. Our main sites are our teaching hospitals in York and Scarborough, which are within the beautiful and historic city, and the spectacular North York Moors and North Yorkshire Coast respectively. There is currently a separate on call rota for York and Scarborough with one Lead Clinician across both sites.

The Department of Urology forms part of the General Surgery and Urology Directorate at the Trust. The department has close links with Hull and York Medical School (HYMS) offering interested candidates opportunities for undergraduate teaching or the development of management roles within the medical school. Candidates must have a higher medical qualification. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous.

The interviews for this post will take place on: 26TH OCTOBER 2018
