…to help make us a valued and trusted partner within our care system, that delivers safe effective care to our local population.
York Teaching Hospital Trust receives about £180m of goods and services each year. This work is overseen and undertaken by a great team of Storekeepers who ensure that what we get is delivered to the right place at the right time. Whilst they may not directly treat patients they are a very important part of ensuring a hospital functions effectively and our patients can get better.
The work of a Storekeeper includes taking deliveries, checking for damaged/missing items, storing goods, moving stock by various methods, picking/packing orders, loading goods for dispatch, maintaining stock records and documentation, and cleaning. They may be required to safely use a range of equipment, machinery and vehicles relevant to their role and setting. This could include mechanical racking systems, materials handling equipment (MHE) or fork lift trucks.
Storekeepers communicate with a wide range of people and customers. They have a passion to meet customers’ expectations by providing a quality service whilst being able to work under pressure to tight deadlines. (If the goods are not on the shelves the nurses and doctors cannot treat their patients).
They will demonstrate integrity, credibility, honesty, positivity and personal drive and hard work in every aspect of their role and take ownership for their own performance. In return we will support you through your apprenticeship and teach you the skills to develop a career.
The Storekeeper role can require a level of flexible working outside of normal office hours and this may include early mornings and some weekend working.
Uniforms and PPE are provided. Do feel free to contact us for an informal chat about the job or any queries you might have.
Please note: This job advert will close as soon as sufficient applications have been received, so may close before the advertised date if necessary. Please apply for this job as soon as you can, if interested.
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
