The unit provides the base site for the North Yorkshire breast screening programme which covers the beautiful North Yorkshire region with a 3 year population of around 131,000. It is also the centre for the provision of a comprehensive symptomatic breast service to the population of York, providing one stop and follow up services, as well as some outreach clinics at Scarborough hospital. We are proud of our excellent links with the symptomatic breast services across the region.

Our current team consists of 5 consultant Radiologists, 4 consultant Radiographers, 5 surgeons 4 undertaking oncoplastic surgery, radiographers , breast care nurses, admin team and MDT and has close links to pathology and oncology

The unit is forward thinking and participates in research with several, on-going research projects supported by research nurses. A key element of the associate specialist role is to support excellence by learning and audit

It is a reference site for Hologic imaging equipment and SECTRA PACS systems.

Screening is provided on 4 mobile mammography units which cover over 24 locations around the county and one static unit situated in York with further investigations undertaken at the department in York

The service is delivered across the week in 6 second stage screening clinics with clinical assessment supported by breast care nurses and biopsy support provided by advanced practioners, 5 one stop symptomatic clinics and 5 symptomatic follow up clinics.
