York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for Consultants in Acute to join our successful and established team of acute physicians.

Do you share our values? We’re looking for applications from people who:

- care about what they do

- respect and value others

- listen in order to improve

- always do what they can to be helpful

to help make us a valued and trusted partner within our care system, that delivers safe effective care to our local population.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale – an area covering 3,400 square miles. The Trust has an annual turnover of over £400 million. We manage ten hospital sites, 1,127 beds (including day case beds) and have a workforce of over 8,000 staff working across our hospitals and in the community. Our main sites are our 700+ bedded teaching hospital in York, which has close proximity to the beautiful and historic city centre, and Scarborough Hospital which has an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma and intensive care services to the population and visitors to the stunning North East Yorkshire Coast.

We are inviting applications to join our dynamic and rapidly evolving team of acute physicians. York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. The Trust is advancing its ambitious and exciting development of integrated services across York and Scarborough and in line with this, an opportunity now exists to appoint a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine.

The successful candidate will join a team of physicians drawn from both acute medicine and specialty backgrounds. Opportunities exist for the right candidate to maintain speciality interests as well as potentially playing a significant role in teaching for Hull & York Medical School.

The acute floor at York includes both an assessment unit and Ambulatory Care Unit. Multi-disciplinary working is at the heart of our philosophy and applicants will find our service is well resourced with input from colleagues across disciplines.

This post holder will join our current team of 8 Acute Physicians and will be based at York Hospital. A full range of inpatient and outpatient services are provided at this site. The post holder will take an active role in specialty care of inpatients and will also participate in the General Medicine on call rota at the site. We are developing an Acute Physician in Charge role to control assessment of patients and flow in to the bed base, working closely with colleagues in Emergency Medicine and General Practice. Applicants with a particular interest in Emergency Medicine in-reach would be strongly encouraged to apply.

We are delighted to invite applications to join us at this exciting and challenging time. Candidates are welcome to arrange an informal visit and see first hand the exemplary care and superb environment for team working that we offer.

Candidates must have a higher medical qualification (MRCP or equivalent), have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 18 months of the interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.

The recruitment programme for this position will take place over two days as follows (please note that shortlisted candidates will need to be available to attend the Trust on all of the dates listed below):

  • Day 1 – Date TBC Assessment Centre (deselective)
  • Day 2 – Date TBC Interviews - candidates successful at Assessment Centre

Please note that some of our substantive vacancies may be available on a smaller number of hours than advertised. If you would be interested in applying on this basis, we would encourage you to contact the appointing manager to enquire further.

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
