The Estates Department is looking to recruit a highly motivated Relief Shift Mechanical Craftsperson to work as part of a multidisciplinary team based within York Teaching Hospital. The department provides management, development, maintenance and operational support for the Trust's buildings and engineering infrastructure.

The role is critical to the Estates Department's maintenance support service and is demanding and varied as it covers a range of engineering services. The role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning and maintenance of a range of engineering services in the Trust's clinical and non-clinical facilities of a very busy directorate and to be part of a team that is constantly working to improve the quality and safety of the Trust's healthcare facilities.

The successful candidate will be based at York but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites. You will be part of a team initially working dayshift Monday to Friday but also covering when necessary, often and at short notice a 24/7 shift rota. You must be flexible regarding the hours of duty and will be expected to undertake appropriate training as part of the job role.

The successful candidate will have a good general knowledge of Electrical / Mechanical services and engineering maintenance backed up by a BTEC, City and Guilds Craft Certificate or NVQ 3 qualification in either a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline, successfully completed a recognised Apprenticeship or equivalent certified training and at least 3 years post-apprenticeship experience, a good knowledge of electrical plant and associated equipment, heating and ventilation systems. Also knowledge of pressure systems, medical gas, decontamination, water systems would be an advantage, but full training will be given.

The successful candidate must be able to work co-operatively as part of a team comprising of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance colleagues and have demonstrable experience of working within a maintenance environment. In addition, the successful candidate should be highly motivated and proactive, reliable, resilient, and enthusiastic and also be able to work under pressure with the minimum of supervision.

The successful candidate will be expected to transfer tools and equipment, at short notice, across the locality during a normal working day.

Salary is negotiable within the stated Agenda for Change Band; unsocial hours pay enhancements are also applicable.
