CONSULTANT IN RESPIRATORY MEDICINE

Base: Scarborough

Whole Time, Part Time or Job Share – 10 Programmed Activities (Additional programmed activity’s may be offered)

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join our team providing respiratory services across North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Coast. This post will be based at Scarborough Hospital with options for cross-site working as needed for subspecialty interests.  A full-time post is available but applications will also be considered for applicants wishing to job-share or work part-time.

The successful applicant will join a close-knit multi-professional team delivering acute hospital and some community services. Inpatient respiratory care is delivered on a shared 32 bedded ward at Scarborough Hospital. Outpatient clinics take place at Scarborough, Bridlington and Malton.  An interest in lung cancer and/or asthma would be especially welcome but candidates with other subspecialty interests are also encouraged to apply.

The Trust works closely with the Hull York Medical School and offers the opportunity to participate in undergraduate teaching and research. Teaching facilities are available on-site at Scarborough Hospital and the post-holder would be supported in developing an academic interest if desired.

The successful applicant would be expected to contribute to the General Medical on-call rota at Scarborough Hospital, currently a 1:16 rota including early evening ‘post-take’ reviews and overnight non-resident on-call.

The Yorkshire Coast area is a welcoming and scenic place to live and work. Highlights including the North York Moors National Park, picturesque seaside towns and the historic city of York.  Transport links to London and the South East, and North East England and Scotland are good with York being on the East Coast mainline and close to major trunk roads.  There is also easy access to Leeds and West Yorkshire by road and train.

The recruitment programme will take place over two days as follows (please note that shortlisted candidates will need to be available to attend the Trust on all of the dates listed below):

Day 1; if shortlisted, we will invite you to an Assessment Centre on TBC where we will ask you to participate in 2 activities. The activities may consist of a hand written exercise, or a group activity / single activity where you may need to present to a board panel. All details will be provided on the day and there is no preparation required in advance. The Assessment Centre will be based in York in the morning/afternoon and usually lasts no more than 3 hours. Full details will be provided to you if you are shortlisted to attend.

Day 2; if you are successful at our Assessment Centre, you will be invited to an interview which will be held on TBC in Scarborough.

Pre-application and pre-interview visits are encouraged.
