This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Biomedical Scientist, to join our professional and friendly team within the Haematology Department.

Applicants will need to be HCPC registered, and attained an IBMS approved Haematology MSc and /or FIBMS, in order to demonstrate the required level of knowledge and competence for this post.  You will need to lead morphology, and support the automated haematology section across our sites, under the direction of the Haematology Operational Manager.

The post represents an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge and technical skills, and the department has a strong culture of supporting professional training and CPD activities. The haematology laboratory has an MSC with Sysmex including XN-10, XN-20 and XN-550 FBC analysers, Interrliner FRL and a DI-60. The laboratory is formally accredited by UKAS to ISO 15189, and is an IBMS-approved training laboratory.

After satisfactory completion of local induction and work-based training, the successful applicant may be expected to participate in some of the departmental non-night shift system if necessary.

Informal visits are welcomed and encouraged.

It's not just the area that's a great draw, as well: as a member of our team, you’ll have access to one of the most generous and comprehensive pension schemes in the UK, a minimum of 27 days annual leave (on top of Bank Holidays) and an award-winning package of staff benefits (see link on the right).

Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
