North Yorkshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme is looking to recruit a new person to join the Retinal Screening Team based in Scarborough on a secondment finishing 31st July 2018.

Previous experience is not essential as full training will be given. The screening locality teams are part of the North Yorkshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme delivering a photographic screening service to over 42,000 people with diabetes across North Yorkshire.

The post on offer is primarily based at the Scarborough locality base and the successful candidate will join the locality team delivering retinal screening service in the surrounding area. The post holder however may be called to deliver the service in other areas covered by the Retinal Screening Service as and when required.

Each team consists of a Screener/Grader Team Leader and Screener Graders. Screener/Graders will travel to various locations in the retinal screening service fleet of purpose fitted vans. These locations may be GP surgeries, Health Centers or Hospitals.

The screener/graders will undertake clinics where they will perform digital photographic image capture of each patient’s eyes.

Being in the front line of service delivery, the screener will have contact with patients and their carers, GP practices teams and various other agencies. This will require a high level of communication skills and customer care skills to ensure good relationships are developed across a diverse area.

Experience in using windows based computer systems would be an advantage. Experience of using digital cameras would be useful even if it’s for home photography. The successful candidate will be expected to transport themselves and equipment throughout the locality. The Diploma of Retinopathy Screening or willingness to undertake the Diploma is required for this post. Nationally a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds have opted to train as screener/graders so please don’t be put off applying if you don’t have the Diploma or experience of retinal screening as full training and support will be given.

Applicant requirements

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
