We welcome candidates to apply for this opportunity at Scarborough as a Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine. York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services and would like you to become part of this.
The post holder will be part of a team responsible for providing an Acute Medical service within the 28 bedded Acute Medical Assessment Unit and also part of a new development to enhance the Ambulatory care service at Scarborough Hospital.
The medical team comprises of 4 WTE consultants, 1 x FY2, 4 x CT1 and 3 x dual accredited ST3+ doctors that participate in the acute rota. The nursing team is led by a Matron, band 7 sister and the ward also has a band 6 co-ordinator available on each shift.
The current acute service, of which the Acute Medicine Assessment Unit is part, is subject to a developed and funded acute care strategy to radically transform acute care to our patients. The model of care proposed is designed to encourage new ways of working across all specialties and between the hospital and community healthcare partners focusing on a rapid senior review and pathways of care. The programme is supported by a significant investment in capital build and reorganisation. The successful applicant will be essential to the delivery of this strategy as we continue to reconfigure and expand our current provision.
The out of hours provision is a Hospital at Night Care Model with a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians led by Operational Practitioners.
The post holders would be required to participate in the on-call rota on a 1:13 basis, shared with colleagues in both Acute and General Medicine specialties. The on-call rota is currently defined as a Category A rota which requires consultants on call to respond immediately to complex telephone enquiries or attend the hospital.
The department has close links with Hull and York Medical School (HYMS) offering interested candidates opportunities for undergraduate teaching or the development of management roles within the medical school.
Scarborough is situated in a beautiful part of the country on the edge of the Yorkshire moors national park with miles of beautiful coastline on the doorstep. The historical cultural city of York is situated just 40 miles inland.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
